The Last 2 Years: February 2013

This month was spent readjusting to dad being home.  We had a decent Honeymoon period at the end of last deployment (June 2011).  I think a lot of that was in part due to the fact that Aaron only had the 2 recon weeks home until he had to report for SERE at Fairchild AFB in Spokane for a month, then off to a week in Florida for water survival, home for 3 weeks and then to Ohio for his last 2 weeks of AMP at Wright-Patt.  It was never spoken, but for me, we never really settled in until September of that year.  Aaron was in and out so much that it felt that we were constantly doing the homecoming over and over again.

That wasn’t the case this time.  The other flight Dr that was Ellsworth was deployed and the 2 new guys they got for the summer were shortly moved to the Family Medicine part of the clinic.  Aaron, therefore, was the only flight DR around.  He was given the Friday off after coming home and then had to start back to work right away.  Don’t worry, A LOT of people were indignant for us so we didn’t have to put up too much of a stink and it was nice that Aaron was forced onto our time zone again.  We also got our 2 weeks after, so we still got them!

That being said, I was a little disappointed that we settled into our routine again so quickly.  Don’t get me wrong, there was still the novelty of Aaron being home but it faded sooner than I was hoping it would.

Of course the Rasmussen’s came to visit (cause Landon needs his time too!).  It is always so fun when we get together!  The kids are all the same ages and consider each other cousins so that’s nice.  Our adventure this visit was to Wind Cave in Custer State Park.  The Rasmussens kids showed our kids how to become Jr Rangers and we got to see a piece of RC that we hadn’t yet.

totally NOT ok to do!

becoming a Jr Ranger

Our end of deployment trip this time around was to a cabin in Lead/Deadwood with the McDowells and Hammers.  Drew (Dewey) McDowell was deployed with Aaron so everyone was looking forward to just sitting and being together.  WE rented snow machines for a day and then spent time in the hot tub and heated pool. The kids enjoyed jumping in the snow and then the pool.  I thought about it and then realized that I was a party pooper and didn’t.  I did a super poor job of taking pictures so there isn’t much to show.
